For angling enthusiasts, Pancheshwar is U-Daredo.The kali is the home of the famous MAHSEER and promises an excellent fish game. The only catch is - You have to leave the big catches back where they belong. In pre-independence tims, angling was very popular pass time of the britishers and was called "the great game". The GOLDEN MAHSEER is a sporting fish and is found in large numbers in the rivers and lakes of Uttrakhand. Fishing is allowed in Gaht(sayru river) Pancheshwar (confluence of Kali and Saryu), Jauljibi(confluence of Gori and Kali), Chuka (confluence of ladiya and Kali) and Boom (Saidr river).
Dodital in Garhwal (Uttrakhand) is another heaven for angling enthusiasts.

The river kali originates in Pithoragarh district of Uttrakhand and forms a natural eastern boundry between India and Nepal. The river is named after the godess Kali but when it decends in the plains and meets up the Saryu river it is called Sarda or Sharda river. It's a torrential river which is due to its remote location is one of the best Mahseer angling spots in the country.

Day1 : Delhi - Kathgodam - Camp
Departure Delhi 5 am. Drive 550Kms to Pancheswar(12hrs by car/14hrs by coach)

Day 2 : Camp
Fish for mahseer on plug and spoon at pancheswar at the confluence of Saryu and Kali riversRecord Mahseer taken at this site is 80lbs

Day 3 : Camp
Fish early morning and after breakfast start rafting. Overnight halt at surnia junction. A small stream coming in from Nepal which affords a lovely camp-site and fresh water.

Raft to the confluence of Ladiya river

Negotiate Chuka rapids (Grade 3-45 depending on the water level.) Later half is a smooth sail through purnagiri gorge. Put out at Boom

Breakfast and Depature for Delhi (430Kms)
Note :
Due to rampant poaching of the river by the locals and bombing/poisoning by wasted commercial interests the golden MAHSEER is a threatened species and no guarantee of catch can be made. However to hook onto a mighty MAHSEER is an experience no angler will ever forget. Reputed to be the fiercest freshwater fish in the world, MAHSEER has been recorded at 12lbs caught on rod and reel. Besides Flaura and fauna to be seen on this totally wild stretch of river would delight any naturalist.
